Vatican Museums tickets: how to book, prices and what if they’re sold out

Book a timed entry in advance, dress for the rules, and know what to do if slots are gone.

PROTOTYPE · SEO/GEO article v1 · facts from the EmweGo guides (checked 2026-09-23) · question source: Traveller-questions research A01–A10 (Reddit, forums), 23 Sep 2026 (A04)
Short answer

Book a timed entry before you go — on EmweGo you can reserve Vatican Museums & Sistine Chapel entry or a guided tour. At the Museums’ own ticket office a full ticket is €20, plus €5 for a timed ‘skip the line’ slot online (reduced €10 + €5). The Museums and the Sistine Chapel are open Monday–Saturday 08:00–20:00 (last entry 18:00); the last Sunday of the month is free, 09:00–14:00. If entry slots are sold out, a guided tour that includes admission is the usual way in.
