# D2 — Amalfi Coast and Sorrento

**Research status:** source-backed destination brief; **checked 23 September 2026** (America/New_York). English output, short factual bullets. Prices and timetables are date-sensitive. “Official” means a municipality, operator, park, museum, or destination-management source; “third-party” and “community” are labelled. A missing 2026 publication is not filled with an estimate.

## 1. Start here

- **Best first-time base without a car:** Amalfi for ferry + SITA reach; Sorrento if rail, Pompeii, Naples and late-arrival resilience matter more.
- **Most scenic / least efficient bases:** Positano, Praiano, Ravello. They trade access for views, stairs and transfer cost.
- **Best value / beach practicality:** Maiori; **small-town alternative:** Minori; **rail-and-ferry gateway:** Vietri sul Mare.
- **Core transport rule:** build around ferry/SITA departures, not around driving. The coast road is narrow, parking is scarce and 2026 alternate-plate rules are active on SS163.
- **D2 scope:** Amalfi Coast and Sorrento; last-mile access from Naples/Salerno/Sorrento stations, airports and ports only. City-to-city mainland transport is outside scope except where it is the final leg to a town.
- **Do not duplicate G06:** Positano beach clubs are deliberately not itemised here. Use the G06 Positano beach-club module as the detailed commercial reference; this file covers only free beaches, general paid-beach economics and access constraints.

### Decision table

| Traveller | Choose | Why | Watch-out |
|---|---|---|---|
| No car, first trip | Amalfi | Ferry hub, SITA hub, walkable core | Ravello/Path of Gods still need bus/taxi |
| Rail + Pompeii + Capri | Sorrento | Circumvesuviana, ferry pier, larger evening supply | Coast day trips are longer |
| Beach + lower spend | Maiori or Minori | More usable shore, lower accommodation pressure | Fewer late-night choices than Sorrento |
| Views + quiet evenings | Ravello | Villas, gardens, elevated panorama | Every sea-level outing is a descent |
| Iconic postcard stay | Positano | Walking town, ferry, views | Stairs, luggage and parking cost |
| Ceramic / Salerno access | Vietri sul Mare | Rail and highway access, local ceramics | Less “vertical Amalfi” scenery |

## 2. When to go

### Month-by-month operating picture

| Month | Sea / weather signal | Crowds and pricing | Ferry / sight operating picture | Events / decision |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jan | Water about 14.2°C (third-party climate table) | Lowest demand; many seasonal hotels/lidos close | SITA runs; ferry frequency and hotel openings are property-specific | Good for towns, poor for swimming |
| Feb | About 13.8°C | Quiet; rain/wind can disrupt sea plans | Reduced seasonal offer; verify every operator | Carnival dates vary; no unified 2027 calendar published |
| Mar | About 13.8°C | Shoulder; weekends lift demand | Paper Museum opens daily from 1 Mar; sea services begin building | Good walking month with weather contingency |
| Apr | About 14.5°C | Easter spike; prices rise around holidays | Villa Rufolo daily from 29 Mar; SS163 restrictions begin around Easter / bridges | Strong shoulder choice; book Easter ahead |
| May | About 17.1°C | High shoulder; hiking and ferries become dependable | Travelmar density rises; Villa Rufolo free first-Saturday guided-tour programme begins | Best balance for walking and sightseeing |
| Jun | About 20.7°C | High; beach demand rises | Travelmar timetable published from 6 Jun 2026; Amalfi “Mare per tutti” free accessible service begins 6 Jun | Good all-round month |
| Jul | About 24.6°C | Peak; highest hotel/lido pressure | Full sea-season network; hot exposed hikes | Ravello Festival 2026 ran 4 Jul–5 Sep |
| Aug | About 25.9°C | Peak / most crowded; highest parking and beach pressure | Full network but weather queues and ferry sell-outs | SS163 alternate plates daily 10:00–18:00 |
| Sep | About 23.2°C | High early, easing late; still strong sea demand | 2026 autumn SITA tables effective 14 Sep; Travelmar remains active | Best late-summer compromise; 23 Sep is an odd-plate day |
| Oct | About 20.9°C | Shoulder; late-season closures begin | 2026 October Travelmar timetable not found as of 23 Sep; verify day-by-day | Good walking; weaker ferry reliability late month |
| Nov | About 18.0°C | Low; many lidos/hotels close | Paper Museum daily 10:00–17:00 from 3 Nov except Mondays; sea offer reduced | Culture and food, not beach |
| Dec | About 15.7°C | Low except Christmas / New Year | Paper Museum closed 24–26 Dec; special opening 27–30 Dec | Festive local atmosphere; short daylight |

The month table is a planning synthesis, not a forecast.

### 2027 event publication status

- **Ravello Festival:** the organiser has published the 2026 season (4 Jul–5 Sep); official 2027 dates were **not published as of 23 Sep 2026**. Monitor [Fondazione Ravello](https://www.fondazioneravello.com/il-festival/).
- **Amalfi Coast Music & Arts Festival, Choral Week:** organiser lists **27 Jun–3 Jul 2027**; event-organiser source, not a municipal calendar: [amalfi-festival.org](https://amalfi-festival.org/).
- **Saint Andrew / local patron festivals:** recurring local dates exist, but a consolidated 2027 municipal calendar was not found. Treat dates as **not published** until each town confirms.

### SITA Sud — the backbone

- **Current source:** [SITA Campania timetable page](https://sitasudtrasporti.it/campania/orari/) and the **autumn 2026 timetable set effective 14 Sep** hosted by [Distretto Turistico Costa d’Amalfi](https://distrettocostadamalfi.it/praiano-tourist-information-office/) (checked 23 Sep 2026).
- Current tables cover Amalfi–Ravello–Salerno, Amalfi–Positano–Sorrento, Amalfi–Agerola, Maiori–Tramonti, Praiano and the Sorrento peninsula. Route stop examples include Conca / Grotta Smeraldo, Praiano, Positano Sponda, Positano Chiesa Nuova, Colli San Pietro, Meta, Piano di Sorrento, Sant’Agnello and Sorrento.
- **First / last departures:** service is day-type dependent. The current autumn PDF shows Amalfi departures from early morning (around 06:20 on some tables) through late evening (around 23:00 on some tables), but the first/last run is not the same for every stop or day type. Read the exact dated table before committing.
- **Tickets:** buy at authorised sellers or through the [SITA ticket / seller information](https://sitasudtrasporti.it/campania/biglietterie/); validate before boarding. Do not assume every driver sells tickets.
- **COSTIERASITA:** €10, personal and nominative, valid 24 hours after first validation for unlimited SITA Sud rides across the listed Coast / Sorrento municipalities. [Official product notice](https://sitasudtrasporti.it/campania/avvisi/titolo-di-viaggio-costiera-sita/) (checked 23 Sep 2026).
- **Disruptions:** check the official notice page on travel day; the operator also points to UnicoCampania, Google Maps and Moovit for live planning. Queues are not a timetable guarantee.

### Travelmar — routes, fares and seasonality

- **Current 2026 fare sheet:** [Travelmar tariff PDF](https://www.travelmar.it/_download/tariffe-2026.pdf), checked 23 Sep 2026: Salerno–Amalfi €12; Salerno–Positano €17; Salerno–Vietri €6; Salerno–Cetara €7.50; Salerno–Maiori €10; Amalfi–Positano €10; Amalfi–Minori/Maiori €5. Day tours are separate products (for example Salerno–Positano–Amalfi–Salerno €39).
- **Published timetable:** [6 June 2026 timetable PDF](https://www.travelmar.it/_download/orari-travelmar-dal-6-giugno-2026.pdf). Typical published sailing times from Salerno: Vietri ~5 min, Cetara ~10, Maiori ~30, Amalfi ~35, Minori ~40, Positano ~70; departures are spread from the morning to early evening. Exact service is route/date dependent.
- **From 1 Oct 2026:** an official 2026 October timetable was **not found as of 23 Sep 2026**. The official site says service is available year-round, but reduced autumn/winter frequency and weather cancellations remain possible. Check [Travelmar schedules](https://www.travelmar.it/it/orari) and [FAQ](https://www.travelmar.it/en/faq) on the day.
- **Booking:** buy online or at the operator’s ticket offices; arrive early in peak season. Ferry capacity, luggage rules and sea state can change the practical departure.

### Positano Jet — useful direct links

- [Timetables and fares](https://www.positanojet.it/en/timetables-and-fares/) (official operator page, checked 23 Sep 2026): routes include Amalfi–Positano, Amalfi–Salerno, Positano–Sorrento and Naples links; operator says trips run regularly, but the exact PDF table must be checked for the date.
- [Positano–Sorrento](https://www.positanojet.it/en/positano-sorrento-ferry/): about 40 min, Marina Grande to Marina Piccola; one hand-luggage piece included; larger luggage costs extra; arrive 20 min early; advance booking recommended.
- [Amalfi–Sorrento](https://www.positanojet.it/en/amalfi-sorrento-ferry/): about 80 min via Positano, direct through-ticketing/no change according to operator.
- [Positano–Amalfi](https://www.positanojet.it/en/positano-amalfi-ferry/): about 15–20 min; [Amalfi–Positano](https://www.positanojet.it/en/amalfi-positano-ferry/) about 20–25 min.
- **Seasonality:** exact 1 Oct–winter service calendar and current route fares were not all exposed in a text-readable official table on the check date. Use the booking engine rather than copying summer assumptions.

### SS163 restrictions and driving

- **Active on 23 Sep 2026:** daily alternate-plate restriction on SS163 in the affected Vietri–Positano section, **10:00–18:00**. 23 September is an odd date: vehicles with an odd final plate digit are prohibited under the odd-day rule.
- **2026 calendar:** the formal ANAS rule is extended by municipal ordinances: daily 1–30 Aug and 1–30 Sep; weekends/holidays in June, July and October. [Comune di Praiano notice](https://comune.praiano.sa.it/notizie/3422359/ordinanza-anas-targhe-alterne-lungo-statale-163) and [updated Coast summary](https://distrettocostadamalfi.it/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/Amalfi-Coast-Alternate-plate-system-updated-27-05-2026-1.pdf), checked 23 Sep 2026.
- **Exemptions:** residents of Coast municipalities, disabled permit holders, taxis/NCC, emergency services and hotel guests for booked arrival/departure are among the published exceptions. Carry proof of the booking; do not assume an exemption covers sightseeing driving.
- **Not affected by this order:** Valico di Chiunzi and SR366 Agerolina, according to the Praiano notice. They may still have traffic/weather restrictions.
- **Positano ZTL:** use the [Comune Positano ZTL portal](https://comune.positano.sa.it/argomenti/ztl) and [official guide](https://comune.positano.sa.it/documento-pubblico/documento-tecnico-di-supporto/guida-al-portale-ztl-wwwztlpositanoit-ver-12-ita). A third-party parking operator states cars up to six seats can reach its parking without a permit, while larger vehicles must register/pay; treat that as operator guidance, not municipal law.

### Parking

- **Amalfi — Luna Rossa / Berma:** [official Sistema Amalfi tariff](https://sistema-amalfi.it/pagina.asp?a=1575), 170 cars, 30 motorcycles, max height 2 m, no gas/methane. 1 Apr–5 Nov 2026: non-resident car external-area tariff €5/h 09:00–19:00 and €4/h 19:01–08:59; first two daytime hours add €2/h. Check space and height before arrival.
- **Amalfi — Flavio Gioia I:** [official tariff](https://sistema-amalfi.it/pagina.asp?a=1592): 1 Apr–5 Nov 2026 €6/h 09:00–19:00 and €5/h overnight; first two daytime hours add €2/h. Central and convenient, but capacity is limited.
- **Amalfi parking discovery:** municipality recommends the [InfoParkingAmalfi app](https://comune.amalfi.sa.it/Novita/Comunicati/Amalfi-si-dota-di-un-secondo-Fast-Information-Point-in-Piazza-Duomo), checked 23 Sep 2026.
- **Positano:** a single current municipal 2026 tariff sheet was not found. Third-party current guidance reports private parking from about €10/h and central blue-zone estimates around €3/h, with higher private rates around €8–10/h or more depending on vehicle/season. Treat all of those as indicative: [Positano.com practical guide](https://www.positano.com/it/e/info-utili-e-tips), [third-party parking operator](https://parkingpositano.com/pages/i-nostri-servizi). Do not promise a space.
- **Ravello / smaller towns:** property parking is often the realistic option; public-space tariffs and access vary by street. Confirm with the accommodation in writing before taking a car.

### Private transfers — when realistic

- **Airport flat-rate reference:** the official [Naples Airport taxi page](https://www.aeroportodinapoli.it/en/by-taxi) gives the taxi process and fixed-route framework. The linked [Naples taxi tariff PDF](https://www.taxinapoli.it/wp-content/uploads/tariffario-taxi-2024-ita.pdf) lists one-way fixed fares: Sorrento €125, Positano €145, Amalfi €155, Ravello €160; tolls/minivan supplements may be excluded. This is an official 2024 tariff document still linked on 23 Sep 2026; a newer 2026 revision was not found.
- **Market check:** [BlueKeys](https://bluekeys.it/transfer-napoli-costiera-amalfitana) published July 2026 indicative airport-to-Amalfi pricing from €168 sedan (1–3) / €192 minivan (4–8), around 1h30 before traffic; another seller lists airport-to-Amalfi from €144, Ravello €156 and Positano €168. Third-party seller prices; confirm vehicle, tolls, night supplement and cancellation.
- **Port / station:** [Transfer Naples](https://www.transfernaples.it/en/transfer/porto-napoli/amalfi) shows third-party examples from €190 Naples port–Amalfi and €185 Naples Central Station–Amalfi, around 1h45 before traffic.
- **Best use:** late arrival, 3–8 people, mobility limits, wedding luggage, or a Positano/Praiano/Ravello hotel far above the port. For a solo/couple daytime arrival, ferry or SITA is usually cheaper.

### Porters and luggage storage

- **Positano:** [Positano Luggage Service](https://positanoluggageservice.com/en/services/luggage-storage/) offers supervised storage and pickup/drop-off; [Luggage Service & More](https://www.luggageservicepositano.com/) lists porter transport from port/hotel/station, Piazza dei Mulini 10 and 24/7 service. Prices were not published on the operator pages checked 23 Sep 2026.
- **Porter price evidence:** a hotel information page reports an approximate €10 daytime / €20 night rate; a current third-party hostel guide reports €15–20 per bag depending size/weight. These conflict and are **not official tariffs**; ask for a written quote before handing over bags.
- **Amalfi town:** [Sistema Amalfi goods service](https://sistema-amalfi.it/pagina.asp?a=1594) operates 05:00–09:00 from Darsena: up to 5 kg €0.50, 5–10 kg €1, 10–20 kg €2, over 20 kg by agreement; loading/unloading excluded. This is goods transport, not a hotel concierge guarantee.
- **Sorrento:** private operators [Sorrento Parking](https://www.sorrentoparking.com/it/servizi/) and [Luggage Storage Sorrento](https://www.luggagestoragesorrento.com/) advertise storage / retrieval / delivery, but current prices were not published. Ask about same-day cut-off and insurance.

| Amalfi, Ravello, Atrani, Maiori, Minori, Vietri, Praiano | Current unified 2026 tariff not found in accessible official pages | **Not published / verify at booking.** Property checkout may quote the applicable municipal rate. |

### Accommodation examples — not a ranking

These are operating properties with official or municipality/DMO references checked 23 Sep 2026; “well-reviewed” means established destination properties / current official or DMO listing, not a fresh independent review audit. Confirm 2026 dates and closure periods directly.

| Town / best for | Examples (area / access note) | Official or DMO link |
|---|---|---|
| Positano — iconic, central | Le Sirenuse (Piazza dei Leoni); Hotel Marincanto (upper central); Hotel Poseidon (Via Pasitea); Palazzo Murat (Piazza Mulini) | [Le Sirenuse](https://sirenuse.it/), [Marincanto](https://www.marincanto.it/), [Poseidon](https://www.hotelposeidon.com/), [Palazzo Murat](https://palazzomurat.it/) |
| Amalfi — ferry practicality | Santa Caterina (Via Mauro Comite); Anantara Convento (historic convent above centre); Luna Convento (cloister/sea); Marina Riviera (central waterfront) | [DMO list](https://www.visitamalfi.info/en/where-to-stay/), [Santa Caterina](https://www.hotelsantacaterina.it/en/hotel/), [Anantara](https://www.anantara.com/it/convento-di-amalfi), [Luna](https://www.lunahotel.it/en/) |
| Ravello — gardens / views | Palazzo Avino (Via San Giovanni del Toro); Belmond Caruso (Piazza San Giovanni del Toro); Villa Cimbrone (Via Santa Chiara); Villa Maria (near both villas) | [Palazzo Avino](https://www.palazzoavino.com/), [Caruso](https://www.belmond.com/hotels/europe/italy/amalfi-coast/belmond-hotel-caruso/), [Villa Cimbrone](https://www.villacimbrone.com/), [Villa Maria](https://www.villamaria.it/en/) |
| Atrani — village feel | Palazzo Ferraioli (historic centre); L’Argine Fiorito B&B; Me.Fra Rooms; La Scogliera B&B. All require a stairs/porter check. | [Comune accommodation map](https://www.comune.atrani.sa.it/mappa-del-sito), [Palazzo Ferraioli](https://www.palazzoferraioli.it/); municipality-listed properties, not a fresh review ranking |
| Maiori — beach / value | Hotel Pietra di Luna (seafront); Hotel Club Due Torri (east edge); Hotel Reginna (centre); Hotel Panorama (seafront) | [Pietra di Luna](https://www.pietradiluna.com/), [Club Due Torri](https://www.hotelclubduetorri.it/), [Reginna](https://www.hotelreginna.it/), [Panorama](https://www.hotelpanorama.com/) |
| Minori — compact base | Villa Romana Hotel & Spa (near ruins); Hotel 7Bello (Via Alfonso Gatto 39, ferry/bus access); Villa Primavera B&B (hill / lemon garden) | [Villa Romana](https://www.villaromanahotels.com/it/villa-romana/index), [7Bello](https://www.hotel7bellominori.com/en/location.html), [Villa Primavera](https://villa-primavera.com/english); official property pages, not a fresh review ranking |
| Vietri sul Mare — rail / ceramics | Hotel Raito (Raito hillside); Relais Paradiso (Marina di Vietri); Lloyd’s Baia (seafront); local B&Bs near Vietri station | [Hotel Raito](https://www.hotelraito.it/), [Relais Paradiso](https://www.relaisparadiso.it/), [Lloyd’s Baia](https://www.lloydsbaiahotel.it/) |
| Praiano — sunset / quieter than Positano | Casa Angelina (Praiano); Hotel Margherita (Via Umberto I); Tramonto d’Oro (centre); Grand Hotel Tritone (isolated sea platform) | [Casa Angelina](https://www.casangelina.com/), [Margherita](https://www.hotelmargherita.info/), [Tramonto d’Oro](https://www.tramontodoro.com/), [Grand Hotel Tritone](https://www.grandhoteltritone.it/) |
| Sorrento — transport / broad choice | Grand Hotel Excelsior Vittoria (Piazza Tasso); Bellevue Syrene (cliff/centre); Antiche Mura (Piazza Tasso); Maison La Minervetta (Marina Grande side) | [Excelsior Vittoria](https://excelsiorvittoria.com/it/), [Sorrento municipality hotel list](https://www.comune.sorrento.na.it/node/14518); direct 2026 hotel pages should be checked before booking |

**Accessibility note:** “central” does not mean step-free. Ask every property about port steps, elevator, luggage hand-off, shower access and the distance from the ferry/bus stop. This matters most in Positano, Atrani, Ravello and Praiano.

## 5. Getting around

- **SITA bus:** the essential road network. Buy/validate tickets before boarding; the €10 COSTIERASITA pass is useful for a day with multiple rides. Expect queues and standing-room conditions in peak periods.
- **Ferries:** fastest and most scenic between Salerno, Vietri, Maiori, Minori, Amalfi, Positano and (seasonally) Sorrento/Praiano. Wind and swell can cancel service. Keep a road backup.
- **Walking:** Amalfi, Atrani and Minori are compact; Positano, Ravello and Praiano are vertically demanding. Comfortable shoes and a small bag beat rolling luggage.
- **Taxis / NCC:** use the official [Amalfi taxi rank](https://comune.amalfi.sa.it/Vivere-il-comune/Luoghi/Stazione-Taxi), Piazza Flavio Gioia, and agree the tariff before departure. The municipality’s accessible tariff table is older than 2026; ask for the current fare.
- **Scooters:** practical only for experienced riders; SS163 plate rules apply to motor vehicles and weather/road skill matters. No current official 2026 rental-price baseline was found.
- **Bike:** road cycling is strenuous and exposed; e-bike availability is commercial and location-specific. Helmet, lights and a traffic plan are essential.
- **Funicular / lift:** Sorrento’s lift connection to Marina Grande and private hotel lifts reduce stairs, but hours and fares are operator/property-specific; confirm before relying on them with luggage.
- **Accessibility:** ferry gangways, bus steps, uneven quays and historic stairways are the main barriers. Ask the operator for boarding conditions; do not assume a “beach” is wheelchair accessible.

- Montepertuso and Nocelle viewpoints: free villages / viewpoints; bus access is seasonal and stairs are substantial.
- **Hidden / quieter angle:** arrive by ferry before the day-boat peak, then walk uphill before the heat; this is an operational recommendation, not a guaranteed crowd forecast.

- Santa Maria Maddalena and the beach-front square: free public views.
- Walk to Amalfi: free pedestrian route, about 10–20 min depending pace/bags; use care near crossings.

- Castle of San Nicola de Toro-Plano: exterior / access status changes; current official opening was not found.
- Path of the Lemons toward Minori: free walk, stair-heavy; local weather matters.

- Basilica of Santa Trofimena: worship-led free entry; schedule can change.
- Sal de Riso pastry stop is a commercial food stop, not a sight; see food table.

- Ceramics quarter and Via Piliero workshops: free street browsing; individual shop hours vary.
- Church of San Giovanni Battista and ceramic-lined civic spaces: free exterior / worship access.
- Marina di Vietri / Albori viewpoints: free coastal scenery; bus/walk access is steep.

### Praiano

- Church of San Gennaro and Piazza San Gennaro: free exterior / worship access.
- Marina di Praia: free public access plus paid lidos; rocky cove, limited midday space.
- Fiordo di Furore: public viewpoint and water access are weather/road dependent; the beach is small and free access is not a capacity guarantee.
- Convento di San Domenico / coastal footpaths: free where open; steep and exposed.
- Sunset viewpoint: free, but do not block SS163 or private driveways.

### Sorrento

- Piazza Tasso, historic centre and cloistered lanes: free.

- Villa Comunale viewpoint: free, with lift access toward the port depending operator hours.
- Cloister of San Francesco: free/limited visitor access; event and ceremony closures possible.
- Museo Correale: paid museum; current 2026 tariff/hours not verified in this brief—check [official museum](https://www.museocorreale.it/).
- **Hidden:** sunset from Marina Grande after the day-trip boats leave; community reports support the pattern but it is not a guarantee.

## 8. Things to do

### Beaches: free vs paid

- **Free beach principle:** every major Coast town generally has a public section, but it may be a narrow strip of pebbles/rock, with no changing rooms or shade. “Free” does not mean sandy, quiet or step-free.
- **Paid beach economics (2026 indicative only):** a current third-party guide reports two sunbeds + one umbrella approximately: Positano €70–120+, Fornillo €42–70, Amalfi Marina Grande €35–60, Duoglio €30–47, Santa Croce €30–50, Atrani €30–42, Maiori €25–38, Minori €25–38, Marina di Praia €30–42. [Third-party range](https://www.amalficityguide.com/best-beaches-amalfi-coast/), checked 23 Sep 2026; individual lidos can quote different weekday/weekend and row prices.
- A second third-party source reports Bagni Duoglio around €25 for two chairs + umbrella in July 2026 and single sunbeds €12–18. [Source](https://www.visitaritalia.com/amalfi-coast/beaches/). Conflicting beach prices are retained; no unified official 2026 lido tariff exists.
- **Official accessibility example:** Amalfi’s [MARE PER TUTTI](https://comune.amalfi.sa.it/Novita/Comunicati/L-estate-e-piu-accessibile-e-inclusiva-con-il-progetto-MARE-PER-TUTTI) offered a free accessible service at the west side of Marina Grande, 6 Jun–30 Sep 2026, 08:00–17:00, with 24-hour booking. This is a municipal programme, not a general free-lido promise.
- **Maiori free section:** the municipality has published a reservation model with €1 half-day / €2 full-day and one personal umbrella per group, but the accessible page is not clearly updated for 2026. Treat as historical municipal guidance; verify the 2026 beach office before relying on it.
- **Positano clubs:** not repeated here. See the G06 Positano beach-club module; this D2 file retains only the free/paid framework and access cautions.

### Boats and water

- Use Travelmar / Positano Jet for point-to-point transport, not as a guaranteed sightseeing cruise.
- Private boat charter is a commercial product; ask whether fuel, skipper, swimming stop, grotto entrance, port fees and cancellation are included. No single official 2026 price is representative.
- Sea caves and grotto visits are weather dependent; Emerald Grotto has a published fare conflict (Section 6), so pay against the operator’s dated checkout.

### Hikes

- **Path of the Gods (CAI trail 327):** Bomerano/Agerola → Nocelle; 5.3 km, ~2 h one way, difficulty E, +184 m/–356 m. Free; no permit published. Access with SITA/Travelmar shuttle planning; carry water, sun protection and grippy shoes. Return via Nocelle bus or continue to Positano only if knees/time allow.
- **Valle delle Ferriere:** State reserve, 455 ha. Comune Scala states €5 and April–October visiting season; current 2026 hours/quota not published. Call before departing and do not assume the reserve is open after heavy rain.
- **Path of Lemons:** Maiori–Minori local trail; free, stair-heavy; useful short alternative when Path of Gods logistics are too long.

### Food experiences

- Amalfi paper-making demonstration at the Paper Museum: paid guided/private formats available.
- Ceramic workshops in Vietri: commercial, book with the studio; no universal 2026 price.
- Cooking classes / farm meals in Ravello and Sorrento: book directly with the provider and ask about transport, allergens and cancellation.
- Wine / lemon experiences in the hills: private transfer is realistic for a tasting itinerary; public transport does not reliably return late.

## 9. Food & restaurants

**Ordering lens:** try scialatielli ai frutti di mare, anchovy-based Cetara dishes, lemon desserts, delizia al limone, mozzarella / vegetables, pizza, local white wines and limoncello. “Signature order” below is a cuisine cue, not a claim that the dish is always on the current menu. Price bands are indicative: € budget, €€ mid, €€€ high, €€€€ luxury; current menu prices change.

## 10. Itineraries

### One day from Sorrento, no car

1. Early Sorrento–Positano ferry if operating; otherwise SITA via the current autumn timetable.
2. Walk Positano’s core, Santa Maria Assunta and a free beach section; do not schedule a G06 beach club unless separately planned.
3. Ferry or SITA to Amalfi; Cathedral/Cloister if current entrance is open, then Paper Museum only if staying long enough.
4. Return via Travelmar to Salerno + train, or the last verified SITA route to Sorrento. Keep a weather/road buffer.

### Two days

- **Day 1:** Amalfi + Atrani + Ravello (SITA up, walk gardens, bus/taxi back).
- **Day 2:** ferry Positano, then either Fornillo/free beach time or a short Nocelle viewpoint walk. Do not add the full Path of Gods unless it is the day’s main activity.

### Three days / recommended split

- **Nights 1–2 Sorrento, night 3 Amalfi** if arrival/departure uses Naples rail/airport and you want a coastline sleep.
- **Day 1:** Sorrento lanes, Marina Grande, sunset.
- **Day 2:** Path of Gods as the main day; SITA to Bomerano, hike to Nocelle, bus/ferry/transfer back.
- **Day 3:** Amalfi, Atrani, Ravello; Paper Museum or Villa Rufolo depending interest.
- For slower beach time, replace Sorrento with Maiori/Minori and use ferries.

### Rainy-day plan

- Sorrento: museums, historic centre, food class; keep coast-road movement minimal.
- Amalfi: Cathedral complex if open, Paper Museum, long lunch; confirm opening before walking up the paper valley.
- Ravello: indoor churches / cafés, but villas can be wet and slippery.
- Ferry may be cancelled; do not make a boat-dependent same-day airport connection.

### Family / reduced mobility

- Base in Sorrento, Maiori or lower Amalfi; choose a property with lift/porter confirmation.
- Prefer Travelmar ferries where boarding is safe and confirmed; bus steps and crowded quays are difficult with buggies.
- Use official accessible MARE PER TUTTI information in Amalfi; book at least 24 h ahead.

## 11. Day trips / next stops

| Destination | From | Practical last leg | Time / cost evidence | Day trip or night? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pompeii | Sorrento | Circumvesuviana / organised transfer | Rail fare/time not researched in this D2 last-mile brief; use official rail operator | Easy day from Sorrento |
| Capri | Sorrento / Positano / Amalfi | Ferry / hydrofoil | Operator/date-specific; book direct | Full day; night only if slower |
| Salerno | Amalfi / Maiori / Vietri | Travelmar | Amalfi €12, Maiori €10, Vietri €6; Travelmar 2026 tariff | Useful departure night |
| Naples | Sorrento | Circumvesuviana, ferry, taxi | Airport/taxi official route framework; traffic-sensitive | Better as separate night if flight early |
| Agerola / Bomerano | Amalfi / Sorrento | SITA + local shuttle | Current SITA autumn tables; Path of Gods access | Day trip only if hike is main plan |
| Cetara | Salerno / Amalfi | Travelmar where operating / SITA | Travelmar Salerno–Cetara €7.50 | Easy food day |
| Vietri sul Mare | Salerno / Amalfi | Travelmar / train | Travelmar Salerno–Vietri €6 | Easy half-day |

## 12. Useful tips

- Carry small cash, water and a ticket backup; ticket sellers and small bars can be cash-first.
- Validate SITA tickets before boarding; a digital booking screenshot is not automatically a validated bus ticket.
- Do not plan a flight connection around the last ferry. Use private transfer or sleep near the departure node.
- In September 2026, odd/even SS163 rules are active daily 10:00–18:00; a booked hotel arrival exemption is not a sightseeing permit.
- Keep luggage under porter size/weight limits and ask whether price is per bag, per movement or per floor.
- Confirm lift, elevator and the number of steps from quay to hotel; “port view” can mean 100+ stairs.
- Keep swim shoes for pebble/rock entries; free beaches often have no sandy apron.
- Sun disappears early behind cliffs in many coves; beach time is better before mid-afternoon.
- Carry a light rain shell even in high season; ferries and hikes are weather-sensitive.
- Use official operator websites for dated ferry/ticket purchases; do not trust a copied summer PDF for October.
- Parking is a scarce service, not a walk-in right. Get written confirmation of space and vehicle height.
- Avoid renting a car for a short multi-town stay unless the itinerary stays away from SS163 peak windows.
- A realistic mid-range 2-adult / 3-night budget (directional, not a quote): accommodation €450–900+, city tax per official town rate, last-mile transport €80–250 depending ferry/SITA vs private transfer, food €240–450, admissions €40–120, beach day €50–120. Positano peak weeks can exceed this materially.
- **Safety:** cliff paths are not casual promenades; check CAI/municipal status, avoid heat, and do not walk exposed sections in storms.
- **Scam / overcharge control:** agree taxi and porter prices before loading; request a receipt; use the official rank or pre-booked NCC.
- **Toilets:** use cafés/museums before remote hikes; public facilities are not guaranteed at small beaches.
- **Drinking water:** refill where potable signs exist; carry a bottle because uphill stretches lack reliable fountains.
- **Weather contingency:** swap ferry day for Sorrento/Amalfi museums and reschedule the hike; keep one uncommitted half-day.

## 13. FAQ

1. **Is Amalfi or Sorrento better without a car?** Sorrento is stronger for rail/Pompeii/Naples; Amalfi is stronger for ferry access to the central Coast. Choose based on the departure node.
2. **Can I rely on ferries after 1 October 2026?** Not on a copied summer timetable. The official 2026 October timetable was not found on 23 Sep; check Travelmar/Positano Jet for the exact date.
3. **What is the cheapest scenic transfer?** Travelmar Salerno–Amalfi €12 or Salerno–Positano €17; SITA can be cheaper per ride but requires a ticket and queue plan.
4. **Is COSTIERASITA worth €10?** Yes for several SITA rides in 24 h; no if the day is ferry-led.
5. **Can I drive SS163 on 23 Sep 2026?** Only subject to the active odd/even rule and exemptions; 23 Sep is an odd date and odd final digits are restricted 10:00–18:00.
6. **What if my hotel is inside Positano ZTL?** Ask the property for the exact vehicle/arrival procedure and use the official Comune ZTL portal. Do not infer access from a private car park’s marketing.
7. **Where is luggage easiest?** Sorrento has the strongest storage/rail ecosystem; Positano has commercial porter/storage services; Amalfi has a municipal early-morning goods service.
8. **Is the Path of Gods free?** The CAI trail has no published entry fee or permit; access transport and any guide are separate.
9. **How long is the Path of Gods?** CAI lists Bomerano–Nocelle at 5.3 km and about 2 h one way, difficulty E.
10. **Is Valle delle Ferriere free?** Comune Scala currently states a €5 ticket and April–October season; current 2026 hours/quota are not published in the page checked.
11. **What is the cheapest paid villa?** Villa Rufolo is €8 adult; Villa Cimbrone is listed at €10 adult. Verify same-day changes.
12. **Can I book Amalfi Cathedral online?** A complete current 2026 official booking/tariff page was not found. Use the Diocesan Museum / Visit Amalfi information and verify at the entrance.
13. **How much is Emerald Grotto?** Conflicting sources: operator checkout €5 adult; heritage/tourism PDF €10 full. Pay only against the date-specific operator checkout.
14. **Are Amalfi beaches sandy?** Mostly pebbly/rocky, with Maiori the practical longer-beach exception; free sections are limited and not automatically accessible.
15. **What is a realistic two-sunbed price?** Third-party 2026 ranges are roughly €25–38 in Maiori/Minori and €35–60 in Amalfi, with Positano materially higher; there is no unified official tariff.
16. **Do I need to book restaurants?** Book dinner, Michelin restaurants and July–September waterfront tables; walk-in lunch is more realistic in smaller towns.
17. **Which town is best for a budget base?** Minori/Maiori usually offer better value than Positano, but actual 2026 rates vary by date and hotel.
18. **Can I do Path of Gods, Positano and Amalfi in one day?** It is possible but rushed; make the hike the main activity or drop one town.
19. **Is Ravello a beach base?** No. It is a garden/view/culture base above the coast; reaching the sea adds bus/taxi and stairs.
20. **Which arrival is safest with late luggage?** Pre-booked private transfer to the hotel, especially Positano, Praiano, Ravello or a hill property.

## Town cards

The following cards are operational mini-guides. Every “not found” label is intentional; it prevents a plausible but unverified price or opening hour from being presented as fact.

### Positano town card

- **Start here:** iconic, vertical, expensive; sleep here for atmosphere, not transport efficiency.
- **Get there:** Sorrento ferry ~40 min; Salerno ferry ~70 min; SITA from Sorrento/Amalfi; airport private transfer from current third-party examples €168–€192+ depending vehicle.
- **Stay:** Le Sirenuse, Marincanto, Poseidon, Palazzo Murat; official links in Section 4. Confirm stairs, porter and luggage drop-off.
- **See / do:** Santa Maria Assunta, Spiaggia Grande, Fornillo, Nocelle, Montepertuso; free walks plus paid beaches. Path of Gods ends above town.
- **Food:** Da Vincenzo, La Sponda, Chez Black, Zass, Rada, Next2, Da Adolfo, Il Fornillo; see Section 9.
- **Evening:** best after day boats depart; reservations still matter.
- **FAQ:** parking 2026 municipal tariff not found; use ZTL portal. Ferry season/date exact. Porters are commercial and price-conflicting. No G06 beach-club duplication here.

### Amalfi town card

- **Start here:** strongest central-Coast transport base; dense historic core and ferry quay.
- **Get there:** Travelmar Salerno €12 / ~35 min; SITA from Salerno, Sorrento, Positano and Ravello; private transfer when late/heavy.
- **Stay:** Santa Caterina, Anantara Convento, Luna Convento, Marina Riviera / DMO list.
- **See / do:** Cathedral/Cloister, Paper Museum, Arsenal, Valle dei Mulini, Atrani walk; paid sight caveats in Section 6.
- **Food:** Glicine, La Caravella, Sensi, Abside, Al Pesce d’Oro, Lo Smeraldino, Marina Grande, Marinella, Miseria e Nobiltà, Ristorante dei Cappuccini.
- **Evening:** waterfront aperitivo and Piazza Duomo; day-tripper pressure eases after ferry departures.
- **FAQ:** Luna Rossa / Flavio Gioia official 2026 rates are published; current Cathedral tariff is not fully published; MARE PER TUTTI ran 6 Jun–30 Sep 2026.

### Ravello town card

- **Start here:** elevated gardens, views and culture; not a spontaneous beach base.
- **Get there:** SITA Amalfi–Ravello; private car for luggage; schedule is day-type dependent.
- **Stay:** Palazzo Avino, Caruso, Villa Cimbrone, Villa Maria.
- **See / do:** Villa Rufolo, Villa Cimbrone, Duomo, Oscar Niemeyer Auditorium, Scala/Pontone walks.
- **Food:** Rossellinis, Il Flauto di Pan, Villa Maria, Cumpa’ Cosimo, Mimi, Garden Restaurant, Salvatore Ravello, Vittoria.
- **Evening:** quieter than Positano; event dates can change restaurant/hotel demand.
- **FAQ:** Villa Rufolo official €8 / 09:00–20:00; Villa Cimbrone €10 but sunset/20:30 conflict; stairs and hill transfers are the main constraint.

### Atrani town card

- **Start here:** tiny, atmospheric and walkable from Amalfi; limited accommodation inventory.
- **Get there:** walk from Amalfi; taxi/bus for bags; do not roll luggage over stairs without confirming route.
- **Stay:** Palazzo Ferraioli and small centre B&Bs; current official 2026 inventory not fully audited.
- **See / do:** Piazza Umberto I, San Salvatore, Santa Maria Maddalena, free waterfront, Amalfi walk.
- **Food:** A’ Paranza, Le Palme, Mistral, Savo, Lae Domus, Atrani Bistrot, Amalfi overflow, bakery/bar.
- **Evening:** intimate square; limited late-night supply.
- **FAQ:** no current city-tax table found; no unified beach-lido tariff; the town is a better micro-base than a logistics hub.

### Maiori town card

- **Start here:** practical beach base, larger shore and better value profile.
- **Get there:** Travelmar Salerno €10 / ~30 min; SITA across Coast; road access still traffic sensitive.
- **Stay:** Pietra di Luna, Club Due Torri, Reginna, Panorama.
- **See / do:** beach, Path of Lemons, Santa Maria a Mare, San Nicola castle exterior; free and paid beach sections.
- **Food:** Oltremare, Torre Normanna, Pineta 1903, Masaniello, Il Giardiniello, La Terrazza, Sal de Riso nearby, current beach pizzerias.
- **Evening:** more local and spacious than Positano; beach promenade.
- **FAQ:** 2026 free-beach reservation/rates need confirmation; use Maiori for a lower-friction beach stay, not for the shortest Positano commute.

### Minori town card

- **Start here:** compact, ferry-connected and often calmer than Amalfi/Positano.
- **Get there:** Travelmar serves Minori in the 2026 network, but a clean Salerno–Minori single-fare line was not exposed in the text-readable tariff sheet checked here; use the live [Travelmar fare table](https://www.travelmar.it/_download/tariffe-2026.pdf) before purchase. SITA is the fallback. Amalfi–Minori/Maiori is listed at €5.
- **Stay:** Villa Romana, Hotel 7Bello and local B&Bs; verify current official links and porter access.
- **See / do:** Roman Villa, Path of Lemons, waterfront, Basilica, free beach section.
- **Food:** ‘A Ricetta, Sal de Riso, Cuonc Cuonc, Donna Carmela, Giò Giò, La Botte, Garum, local gelateria.
- **Evening:** small-town promenade, limited late-night transport.
- **FAQ:** community reports lower prices than Amalfi/Positano, but this is anecdotal; do not treat it as a guaranteed saving.

### Vietri sul Mare town card

- **Start here:** practical rail/highway gateway with ceramics and a more local feel.
- **Get there:** train to Vietri station or Travelmar Salerno €6 / ~5 min; use taxi for hillside properties.
- **Stay:** Hotel Raito, Relais Paradiso, Lloyd’s Baia, local B&Bs.
- **See / do:** ceramic quarter, San Giovanni Battista, Marina di Vietri, Albori, Villa Guariglia museum subject to current hours.
- **Food:** Marina d’Albori, Volta del Fuenti, Il Golfo, Evù, Pascalò, Sesta Stazione, Locanda del Mare, current association-listed trattorie.
- **Evening:** ceramics shops and waterfront dining; less resort-nightlife dependent.
- **FAQ:** best Coast base for rail? Often yes, but it is not central to every coast sight. Current museum/tax details need town-level verification.

### Praiano town card

- **Start here:** sunset-facing and quieter than Positano, but dispersed and stairy.
- **Get there:** SITA from Amalfi/Sorrento; seasonal Travelmar stop; private transfer useful for cliff hotels.
- **Stay:** Casa Angelina, Margherita, Tramonto d’Oro, Grand Hotel Tritone.
- **See / do:** San Gennaro, Marina di Praia, Fiordo di Furore, San Domenico paths, free viewpoints.
- **Food:** Un Piano nel Cielo, Franchino, Il Pirata, Nonna Nanna, La Conchiglia, Kasai, Trattoria San Gennaro, Café Mirante.
- **Evening:** sunset and destination restaurants; return transport is limited, so sleep near dinner.
- **FAQ:** SS163 restrictions apply; hotel booking is not a general driving pass. Ask about the exact bus stop and stairs.

### Sorrento town card

- **Start here:** best transport resilience, broadest restaurant/hotel supply and easiest rail/airport connection.
- **Get there:** Naples Airport taxi flat-rate framework; Circumvesuviana from Napoli; Positano Jet ferry in sea season; verify late service.
- **Stay:** Excelsior Vittoria, Bellevue Syrene, Antiche Mura, La Minervetta.
- **See / do:** Piazza Tasso, Marina Grande, Villa Comunale, San Francesco cloister, Museo Correale, lemon culture.
- **Food:** Il Buco, Terrazza Bosquet, ‘O Parrucchiano, L’Antica Trattoria, Da Emilia, Lorelei, Don Geppi, Porta Marina, Fauno, local pizzeria.
- **Evening:** strongest non-resort evening ecosystem in D2.
- **FAQ:** city tax has a current 2026 confirmation route; ferry weather still matters; for a coast-focused trip, factor the return time from Amalfi.
