Short answer

Most Italian airports have a fast rail or bus link that stops around midnight — after that you need a night bus, a fixed-fare taxi or a pre-booked transfer. Milan Malpensa: Malpensa Express €15, about 51 min to Centrale, with extra weekend late trains to Cadorna until 01:50. Bologna: Marconi Express €12.80, 7½ min, 05:40–24:00, then the Q bus overnight. Venice: fixed road taxi €40 to Piazzale Roma, €35 to Mestre. Genoa: fixed taxi €25 to the city. Catania: Alibus €4, 04:40–01:00. Cagliari: train €1.30, 6 min. Rome Ciampino is closed to commercial flights 23:00–06:00 — don’t plan to wait there overnight. Fixed taxi fares only apply if you ask for them at the start, and only to the zone they cover.
