Short answer

In most big cities you can simply tap a contactless card at the gate or on board and the system caps your day — Rome €8.50 (Roma 24H), Milan €7.60, Venice €25 (Venezia Daily). Single tickets: Rome €1.50 / 100 min, Milan €2.20 / 90 min, Florence €2.00 / 90 min, Bologna €2.30, Turin €1.90 digital, Genoa €2.00 / 110 min, Venice vaporetto €9.50 / 75 min. One card per person — you can’t tap twice for a companion. Night buses cover the gaps (Rome midnight–05:00, Bologna N lines at weekends). Taxis: take them from the rank or by phone/app; Rome starts at €3.50 weekdays with a €9 minimum. Uber in Italy is mostly Uber Black/NCC or taxis, not cheap UberX.

White licensed taxis from the rank, by phone or in the city’s app. Card payment (POS) is generally mandatory. Rome and Naples run complaint channels for overcharging, missing meters and refused fixed fares; Naples reported airport controls with sanctions and withdrawn licences.
