Naples: pick the base, book one slot, walk the rest

Naples works as a city of walkable clusters linked by metro Line 1 and funiculars. Choose the hotel by its last leg, book Sansevero, and do not fill every Naples day with Campania trips.

Getting there: choose by the last leg to your hotel

Naples Airport and Napoli Centrale are the two main arrival points. Area names are too broad — the right link depends on the exact address, luggage and arrival time.

Airport and Centrale to your hotel

Hotel areaFrom the airportFrom Napoli Centrale
Garibaldi / CentraleAlibus to the station; walk only after checking the entrance and luggage routeUsually walk if the real entrance is close and manageable
Toledo / MunicipioAlibus to the port for Municipio, or to the station then Line 1 to Toledo/Municipio; compare the last legFollow signs to Garibaldi Line 1; get off at Toledo or Municipio according to the address
Dante / historic centreAlibus to the station then Line 1; a taxi may reduce baggage handlingDante / Duomo / Università depends on the exact address — “Centro Storico” is too broad for one stop
VomeroAlibus plus Line 1 towards Vanvitelli/Quattro Giornate, or taxiLine 1 to the relevant station; check the climb or lift for the final section
Chiaia / waterfrontCompare Alibus-to-port plus a local connection with a direct taxiLine 1/6 connection or taxi by address; waterfront hotels are not all beside one station
PosillipoConfirm a direct transfer or the complete local connection before bookingAn address-specific onward leg is needed — no single metro stop is door-to-door

Transport option· Taxi

Fixed taxi fares are zones, not every hotel

Verified 2026-09-17
The fixed fares are defined zones — not a guaranteed fare for every “central” hotel. The municipal tariff (Delibera G.C. 258 of 27 June 2024) is the basis.
Fixed taxi fare (per vehicle)€
Airport → Napoli Centrale€21
Airport → Municipio / Beverello€24
Airport → Via Partenope hotels€28.50
Centrale → Beverello€15.50
Centrale → Via Partenope€17.50

From the current airport-linked municipal tariff PDF. Ask for the fixed fare at the start. The fixed fare already includes radio-taxi, night, holiday, baggage, animal and airport supplements; motorway tolls and the €5 minivan supplement are excluded.

Compare the full price for all children's ages, real beds, connecting rooms, steps to the lift, stroller storage, kitchen/breakfast, early dinner, laundry and the evening return. A cot “on request” is not guaranteed; a kids club must be checked by age, language, season, hours and surcharge. An unknown does not meet a must-have requirement. Practical

Quick answers

Real traveller questions turned into short answers.

Stay

Which part of Naples should I stay in?

Compare the six bases (Toledo/Municipio, Centro Storico, Chiaia/Lungomare, Vomero, Centrale/Garibaldi, Posillipo) by your trip type, last leg and total cost. District reputation alone is not enough.

Stay at Centrale or by the sea?

Choose by how often you take trains versus your evening preference.

How many nights?

See the city-first table: usually 2 nights for 2 days, 3–4 for three full days depending on arrival time.

Is the hotel price final?

No — add the stay tax (€4–€6 per taxable guest per night) and quoted extras.

Can I sightsee before check-in?

Confirm luggage storage and retrieval first. KiPoint at Centrale is 08:00–20:00; airport storage 04:30–22:00.

Transport

How do I reach the airport for an early flight?

Work backward from the airline's requirement; the first bus may not make it. Confirm pickup and late/early reception.

Do I need a car?

Usually no for a city programme — walk and use metro/funiculars. Rent only for the onward leg if needed.

Sights

Do I need reservations everywhere?

No. Sansevero requires one; Palazzo Reale ordinary admission does not.

Are all underground tours interchangeable?

No. Napoli Sotterranea (San Gaetano, 136 steps each way, no lift) and Galleria Borbonica (Morelli entrance, ~60% of the Standard route accessible) differ.

Which underground route with very small children?

Compare steps and entrances; San Gaetano has restrictions, Morelli has a partially accessible route. Confirm stroller handling with the operator.
